Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a minimal invasive procedure that is used to treat spider veins or small varicose veins. It is a very old system of therapy that is in practice for over a century. What makes Sclerotherapy as the most preferred method of treatment for spider veins is its ability to retard the recurrence of it.

Am I a candidate?

• Pregnancy straight away rules out your candidacy.
• Normal healthy adult
• Veins that can be used for future bypass heart surgery are usually avoided in this procedure, unless it has become completely useless.
• Presence of blood clots calls for intensive evaluation and the reason for the clot may decide the course of action.

Treatment Procedure

Based on the health conditions and other factors, our dermatologist considers and finalizes your candidature for the procedure. A salt solution, sclerosant, consisting of Sodium Tetradecyl Sulfate is injected into the affected vein. This solution reacts with the lining of the veins and causes scar and finally seals the vein. The affected area is heavily bandaged to produce the pressure. This line of treatment is highly effective and in a single sitting, around 60% of the affected veins may be sealed and eliminated.

This mode of treatment cannot be applied for larger veins, as the solution gets diluted with the blood. The modified version, known as Foam Sclerotherapy is employed for treating larger veins. With this method, foam is created inside the veins when the sclerosant is mixed with air. The foam helps the procedure in two ways. Firstly it displaces the blood and helps the solution to cause sclerosis and secondly the foam is detected by the ultra sound scanner and hence helps to check whether the complete vein is treated.

Our surgeons at Skinovate perform this simple minimal invasive procedure in the shortest possible time, less than half an hour and create effective impact in the treatment of spider and varicose veins.
